Genevieve Nnaji Breaks Her Low Profile at Cannes, But Fans Are Divided Over Her Festival Look.

CANNES, France – Nollywood legend Genevieve Nnaji has set social media ablaze after making a rare public appearance at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, attending the prestigious Women in Cinema event.

The iconic actress, who has deliberately stayed out of the spotlight for several years, stunned attendees and onlookers alike—not just by her presence, but by her bold fashion choice. Nnaji stepped out in a flowing black bubu gown, a look that immediately became the most talked-about moment of the night on Nigerian Twitter and Instagram.

While some fans celebrated her return, others were less kind. The comment sections of popular blogs were flooded with mixed reactions, ranging from speculation about her physical appearance to critiques of her styling.

One user, @takeasiri, wrote bluntly, "She looks pregnant, if y’all don’t want to say it." Another, @Sijibomi, echoed, "She looks pregnant." Criticism also extended to her hair and overall look, with @akanbi_habby commenting, "The hair isn’t demure o," and @nolie.sam asking simply, "What’s she wearing?"

However, not all feedback was negative. Many loyal fans rushed to her defense, embracing her natural elegance and maturity. @ritjimwajohn noted, "She looks her age," while @stevedarlington declared, "We love her anyhow." Others focused on her stylist, with @adaezeteshap writing, "Nwanyi oma, this stylist eh."

This appearance marks a rare public moment for Nnaji, who has largely remained out of the film circuit in recent years. Despite her low profile, she has consistently been showered with affection from colleagues. Just weeks ago, media personality Toke Makinwa shared a sweet video of a warm moment with Nnaji at a birthday party. In 2024, Ini Edo also sparked excitement by posting a photo of herself hugging the "Lionheart" director.

Last year, Nnaji proved she is unfazed by critics when she clapped back at a troll who age-shamed her, famously replying that getting older is a privilege and that death comes for everyone eventually.

As the Cannes photos continue to circulate, one thing remains clear: Genevieve Nnaji still knows how to command the internet’s full attention, whether fans love the look or not.
