Anosike Pledges Youth Empowerment, Agricultural Revolution for Abia.

PDP Governorship Candidate Unveils ‘Operation Feed Abia’, Promises Global Jobs for Youths.

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr Kelechi Anosike, has promised to make youth empowerment, agriculture and access to global employment opportunities key pillars of his administration if elected governor in the 2027 governorship election.

Anosike made the pledge during the Ohuhu Youth Day held at Afugiri Central School, Ohuhu, where he called on young people across the state to support his governorship ambition and actively participate in shaping Abia’s future.

Addressing the gathering, the PDP candidate stressed that no government could achieve meaningful development while neglecting its young population, describing youths as critical drivers of social and economic progress.

“Any government that does not have a programme for the youths does not understand the future because the youths are the future,” Anosike said.

He said his administration would prioritise programmes designed to equip young people with the skills, resources and opportunities needed to become economically productive and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.

‘Operation Feed Abia’ to Drive Youth Participation in Agriculture

Anosike identified agriculture as one of the major sectors capable of creating jobs, improving food security and reducing economic dependence among young people in Abia.

He unveiled what he described as Operation Feed Abia, a deliberate back-to-farm initiative that would encourage and support youths to participate actively in agriculture.

According to him, the programme would form part of his administration’s broader welfare and economic development agenda, with the aim of turning agriculture into a viable source of employment and income for young people.

He commended the leadership of Ohuhu youths for already engaging young people in agriculture, information and communication technology and other productive ventures.

In recognition of the group’s efforts, Anosike announced a N1m donation to support its agricultural programme.

Promise of Jobs With Companies in Asia, Europe

Beyond local employment initiatives, the governorship candidate also promised to create a platform through which Abia youths could access employment opportunities with companies outside Nigeria without leaving the state.

He said his administration would establish the proposed Abia Global Opportunity Agency, which would facilitate virtual employment opportunities for residents working remotely for companies in Asia and Europe.

“We intend to start programmes whereby even if you are in any part of Abia State, you can work in companies in Asia or Europe through what we call the Abia Global Opportunity Agency,” he said.

Anosike urged the youths of Ohuhu to regard his 2027 governorship bid as a collective project, promising to support youth-driven initiatives beyond the political campaign.

“I believe in the future of Ohuhu Youth and all the youths of Abia State. Any other programme you are doing, call on me, I will support you,” he added.

Ohuhu Youth Seek N75m for Expansion

Earlier, the President of the Ohuhu Welfare Union Youth Wing, Chief Uchenna Iheanacho, disclosed that the organisation had empowered more than 300 people through farming initiatives and skills-acquisition programmes.

Iheanacho said the youth organisation was seeking about N75m to finance the next phase of its programmes and expand its impact across the community.

He listed the proposed projects to include an agriculture and free farming loan scheme, campaigns against drug abuse and cultism, health-awareness programmes, ICT training for 50 students, as well as vocational training.

The youth leader appealed to the government, corporate organisations, philanthropists and other well-meaning individuals to support the group in implementing the programmes.

Royal High Chief Praises Youth Leadership

The chairman of the event, Royal High Chief Ugochukwu Edozie, commended the Ohuhu youth leadership for what he described as visionary initiatives aimed at improving the lives and prospects of young people.

Edozie particularly praised the group’s efforts in agriculture and skills development and called for the Ohuhu Youth Day to become an annual event.

The gathering also featured a recognition for Anosike, who was honoured with a Visionary Leadership Award by the Ohuhu Youth Wing of the Ohuhu Welfare Union.

The award was presented to him by the traditional ruler of Umudiawa Autonomous Community, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu.

The event brought together traditional leaders, youth representatives and members of the Ohuhu community, with discussions largely focused on youth empowerment, agriculture, skills development and the need to create sustainable opportunities for young people ahead of the 2027 political season.
