Passengers Stranded as Air Peace Grounds Lagos–London Flight Over Safety Check

West Africa’s largest airline, Air Peace, has announced a temporary disruption to its scheduled Lagos to London Gatwick flight after a minor technical issue was detected during routine checks carried out shortly after passenger boarding.

In a statement issued by the airline’s management, Air Peace explained that the incident occurred following the completion of boarding procedures for passengers preparing to travel from Lagos to London Gatwick. According to the airline, engineers conducting a standard post-boarding inspection identified a minor fault on the aircraft that required immediate technical attention.

The airline noted that, in line with its strict adherence to international aviation safety standards and operational procedures, the aircraft was immediately withdrawn from service to allow engineers address the issue before takeoff. Passengers were safely disembarked from the aircraft without any incident.

Air Peace stressed that the decision to suspend the flight temporarily was taken purely as a precautionary safety measure, reaffirming that passenger safety remains its highest priority.

The airline also disclosed that all affected passengers were promptly informed about the development and provided with necessary support to ease the inconvenience caused by the delay. According to the statement, the airline arranged hotel accommodation and other assistance for stranded passengers while alternative travel arrangements were being finalised.

“To minimise further disruption, a replacement aircraft from London will be dispatched and passengers are scheduled to depart this morning,” the statement added.

The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the disruption and appealed for understanding from passengers, assuring them that every operational decision taken was in the interest of ensuring safe and reliable service delivery.

Air Peace has continued to expand its international operations in recent years, particularly on the Lagos to London route, which has become one of the airline’s flagship long-haul services since its launch. The carrier has repeatedly emphasised its commitment to maintaining global aviation standards and prioritising passenger safety across all its domestic and international operations.
