Tragedy strikes as 22 year old Sarah Idoko is discovered dumped by roadside, police launch investigation

A final year female student of Federal University Lokoja, Sarah Idoko, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances along the busy Lokoja-Abuja Highway in Kogi State.

The 22 year old's body was discovered on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja. Witnesses say she appeared to have been dumped there by unidentified attackers.

According to people who were in the area that evening, a vehicle was seen pulling over briefly around 8pm near the spot where her body was later found. The car then sped off into the darkness. Passers by made the grim discovery and immediately alerted the police.

At first, many assumed Idoko was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, because an ID card found next to her body showed she was enrolled in the Higher National Diploma programme in Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 session. But police later clarified that she was actually a student of Federal University Lokoja.

The state Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, confirmed the incident and said investigators are working hard to figure out exactly what happened.

"We are working to establish the circumstances surrounding her death and track down those responsible," Kankarofi said. He promised that the public would be informed once the investigation is complete and assured residents that the police are committed to getting justice for Sarah.

The Association of Nigerian Female Students, Kogi State Chapter, has spoken out strongly against the killing, calling it cruel and completely unacceptable.

In a statement signed by their state coordinator, Celina James, the group expressed deep sadness over the loss and urged security agencies to leave no stone unturned in their investigation.

The association also called on government and school authorities to improve security around campuses and student neighbourhoods so that no other family has to go through this pain.

"The tragic death of Sarah Ojodomo has once again raised concerns about the safety of students and residents along the Felele corridor," the statement read, noting that this major gateway into Lokoja has seen several security incidents in recent years.
