AC Milan and Italy icon Franco Baresi has died at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy as one of football's greatest defenders.

The former AC Milan captain and Italian national team star passed away on Friday morning, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Baresi dedicated his entire professional career to AC Milan, wearing the iconic red and black jersey for two decades from 1977 to 1997. During that time, he made over 700 appearances and built a trophy cabinet that would make any player envious.

His impressive collection includes:

· Six Serie A titles

· Three European Cups

· Four Italian Super Cups

· Two Intercontinental Cups

On the international stage, Baresi earned 81 caps for Italy. He was part of the legendary 1982 World Cup-winning squad and later captained the Azzurri to the 1994 World Cup final, where they heartbreakingly lost to Brazil on penalties.

Tributes are flooding in from across the football world. Clubs, former teammates, and fans are remembering Baresi not just for his incredible skills on the pitch, but also for his humility off it.

The football community has lost a true icon who defined an era and inspired generations of players. He leaves behind his family as the world mourns one of the finest defenders to ever play the beautiful game.
