Four Goal Masterclass: Chioma Moses Runs Riot as Edo Queens Put Six Past Abia Angels in NWFL Super 6 Thriller.
It was an afternoon of pure, unadulterated attacking football at the NWFL Super 6 on Wednesday, as Edo Queens sent a thunderous statement of intent by obliterating Abia Angels 6-2 in a match that will be remembered for one player’s historic performance.
The star of the show? Undoubtedly Chioma Moses. The prolific forward was simply unplayable, finding the back of the net four times in a devastating display of clinical finishing. By the final whistle, the Abia Angels defenders looked shell shocked, having been run ragged by Moses and her marauding teammates.
The drama began almost immediately. Within just three minutes of kick off, Moses announced her arrival, calmly slotting home the opener to give Edo Queens a dream start. The Benin based outfit’s joy, however, was short lived. A lapse in concentration at the back allowed Mariam Abdulrasheed to pounce in the 11th minute, levelling the scores and momentarily silencing the Edo Queens’ bench.
Just when it looked like Abia Angels might grow into the game, Moses struck again. Deep into first half stoppage time, she completed her brace, restoring the lead and sending her team into the break with a narrow 2-1 advantage. It was a psychological blow from which Abia would never recover.
Whatever Edo Queens coach Moses Aduku said in the dressing room worked wonders. His team emerged for the second half like a side possessed.
The floodgates opened in the 52nd minute when substitute Precious Oscar made an immediate impact, smashing home the third goal. The crowd barely had time to catch their breath before Atume Doosuur added a fourth just two minutes later. At 4-1, the contest was effectively over as a spectacle but Chioma Moses was not done writing her name in the headlines.
With the Abia Angels defence in tatters, Moses proceeded to deliver the knockout punches. She grabbed her third of the afternoon in the 72nd minute with a poacher's finish, before completing her quadruple in the 81st minute with a moment of individual brilliance. At 6-1, it was a massacre.
To their credit, Abia Angels never stopped fighting. Blessing Saleh managed to curl in a lovely consolation goal in the 87th minute, but it was barely a footnote on a day owned entirely by Edo Queens.
After the match, a delighted but focused Coach Moses Aduku refused to get carried away. “Abia is a good side, but we triumphed through determination,” he said. “For me, the Super Six has just started. We will approach our last two games with the same spirit.”
Team captain Deborah Odiagbe echoed her coach’s warning to their rivals: “There will be no room for complacency. We are here for the title.”
In other Super Six action on the day, Bayelsa Queens edged Rivers Angels 2-1, while FC Robo Queens secured a solid 2-0 victory over Nasarawa Amazons. But all eyes remain on Edo Queens, who look like a team on a mission.
