“He Contemplated Suicide”: Senate Fumes as Kidnappers Seize Toddlers, Behead Teacher in Oyo School Attack.

You know that feeling when you send your child off to school, thinking they’re safe? For dozens of families in Oyo State, that trust was shattered into a million pieces. And on Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate finally broke its silence, and they were furious.

The attack happened on May 15 in Oriire Local Government Area. Gunmen stormed the quiet communities of Ahoro-Esiele and didn’t just kidnap people they unleashed pure horror. According to Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, who broke down the details on the Senate floor, a total of 49 people were taken. Think about that number for a second: 46 children, plus teachers, and yes a toddler.

But it gets worse. Three people were killed. One of them, a mathematics teacher named Mr. Michael Oyedokun, was beheaded. And just to spread the terror, the killers filmed the whole gruesome act and shared it for the world to see.

"The victims were abducted from a learning environment, which ought to symbolise safety, hope, and the future," Senator Buhari said. He added a chilling detail about one father whose wife and four children were snatched. "The man was so devastated he contemplated suicide. I had to beg him not to, because if his family returned and found him gone, who would be there to hold them?"

Another teacher tried to escape through a window. He was shot dead. An innocent okada rider, just passing between two communities, was also killed mistaken for one of the attackers.

As if that wasn't enough, the Senate heard that just this Wednesday morning, another kidnapping happened in Ibadan, where three children and their mother were taken. It paints a picture of a crisis spinning out of control.

The chamber was emotional. Lawmakers didn't just condemn the attack; they demanded action. Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North) stood up and asked a tough question everyone is thinking at home: "Where is all the security money going?" He called for service chiefs to be summoned to explain themselves.

Senator Sunday Karimi added that local security structures are basically useless right now. "We can’t keep giving states more money if people in remote villages still sleep with one eye open," he said.

For now, security forces are moving slowly not because they don't care, but because tiny children, some as young as two or three years old, are mixed in with the captives. Any aggressive rescue could get them killed.

Speaking to reporters after the session, Senator Buhari had one final plea for Nigerians: "Please, don’t turn this into politics. These are not talking points. These are human beings. Their only offence? They woke up, got dressed, and went to school to learn."

The Senate has vowed to keep the pressure on until every last victim comes home.
