House of Reps reshuffles committee chairs after minority caucus leadership changes

The House of Representatives has carried out a reorganisation of several standing committees following adjustments in the leadership structure of its minority caucus.

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen announced the development during Monday’s emergency plenary, explaining that the shake-up became necessary after some lawmakers assumed new roles within the minority leadership, leaving certain committee positions vacant.

According to him, the resulting vacancies required a fresh allocation of committee responsibilities to ensure smooth legislative operations.

Under the new arrangement, the House Committee on Special Duties, formerly chaired by the new Minority Leader Fred Agbedi, has been taken over by Aliyu Madaki, who previously served as deputy minority leader.

In another adjustment, Ali Isa, who once held the position of minority whip, has been named chairperson of the House Committee on Shippers Council, replacing Abdulsamad Dasuki, now serving as deputy minority leader.

Similarly, the House Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises, previously led by Mansur Soro, has been reassigned to Pascal Agbodike following Soro’s elevation to minority whip.
