Italy’s Prime Minister Meloni Splits with Boyfriend After His Lewd TV Comments Including a “Threesome or Foursome” Proposal.
Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s “family first” prime minister, has called it quits with her TV journalist partner after a scandal involving crude, on camera behavior. During a commercial break on the popular show Striscia la Notizia, Andrea Giambruno the father of their 7 year old daughter was recorded grabbing his crotch while suggesting a “threesome or foursome” to a female co-host.
The video quickly went viral, leading to Giambruno’s show being suspended. Meloni announced the split on social media Friday, writing, “My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost ten years, ends here.” She thanked him for their years together and for their daughter, Ginevra, adding, “I will defend at all costs a seven year old girl who loves her mother and loves her father, as I was unable to love mine.”
Giambruno’s agent said he and the network Mediaset agreed to pause his show. Mediaset, once owned by Silvio Berlusconi, has a long history of airing sexist content. In the leaked video, Giambruno is seen asking a co-host if she has a boyfriend, then whether she’d be interested in group sex, while touching himself.
This isn’t the first time Giambruno has caused trouble for Meloni. He previously suggested that young women could avoid gang rape by not drinking, saying, “If you avoid getting drunk… perhaps you’d also avoid getting into trouble, because then you’ll find the wolf.” At the time, Meloni said he had been “misunderstood.”
Meloni has faced criticism for championing traditional families while never marrying Giambruno, and for pushing policies that limit LGBTQ+ parents’ rights. After announcing the breakup, she asked critics not to weaponize her personal pain. Several coalition members, including ministers Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani, tweeted their support.
“I have nothing else to say about this,” Meloni added.
