Kidnapped Oyo Pupils, Teachers Regain Freedom After 56 Days in Captivity

After spending 56 days in captivity, the pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom, bringing relief to their families and the entire nation.

The victims, who were kidnapped in May during a violent attack on their schools, were rescued through a coordinated operation involving Nigerian security agencies. Authorities confirmed that no ransom or concession was made to secure their release, while eight suspected kidnappers were arrested during the operation.

President Bola Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde welcomed the successful rescue, commending the military and other security operatives for their efforts.

The President also assured Nigerians that those responsible for the abduction would face justice, reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening security and protecting schools across the country.

The release has sparked celebrations in Orire and beyond, although officials noted that one teacher was killed shortly after the abduction, underscoring the tragic impact of the incident.
