Osun Governorship Election, 2.3 Million Electorates Set for Suffrage.
The Osun State Governorship Election scheduled by The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is set to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The election fixed to hold across the 3, 763 designated polling units of thirty local government areas in the state, will permit about 2.3 million registered voters to elect candidates of thier choice.
The election earlier planned for February 26, 2026, was later rescheduled by INEC to August 15, to begin by 8:30am and end by 2:30pm.
The current governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke of Accord Party, AP, seeks to run another tenure as he battles other rivals, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji from All Progressives Congress, APC, and African Democratic Congress, ADC candidate Najeem Salaam.
The election comes amidst the need for power change, growth and development of the state.
Security personnel and officials of the electoral body will oversee the electoral process to ensure free and fair election and security of lives and property.
This is the 7th time the govnorship election will happen in Osun state since the return of civilian rule in 1999.
The previous recorded Govnorship elections in the state has occurred in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 respectively.
