A late-night attack by suspected terrorists has thrown Tsamiya town in Kebbi State into fear and uncertainty after armed assailants stormed the community on Saturday, unleashing violence that left buildings destroyed and one resident kidnapped.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying swift tactical response teams have been deployed to restore order, track the attackers, and rescue the abducted victim.

According to preliminary security reports, the gunmen invaded the community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically to disperse residents before embarking on a coordinated wave of destruction. Several structures were set ablaze during the attack, including a makeshift Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) checkpoint, a local brothel, and the residence of a villager identified as Sule Mai Goge.

In the chaos that followed, the attackers abducted one Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare, reportedly whisking him away to an unknown location.

Confirming the attack in an early Sunday statement, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bashir Usman, said the Commissioner of Police immediately ordered an emergency deployment of additional security operatives to the area upon receiving distress reports.

“The Kebbi State Police Command has deployed tactical personnel to Tsamiya Town following an attack by suspected terrorists in the late hours of 20th June 2026,” the statement read.

Usman explain toed that security agencies responded quickly to the incident, reinforcing existing teams already working to secure the affected community and its surroundings.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the deployment of additional security forces to secure lives and property,” he added.

He further disclosed that a full-scale investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the attack, while coordinated efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped victim and apprehend those responsible for the assault.

“A comprehensive investigation into the incident has since commenced, and efforts to rescue the kidnapped victim and track the perpetrators are ongoing,” he said.

The command assured residents of Tsamiya and nearby communities that intensified security operations would continue until normalcy is fully restored, urging calm and cooperation from the public.

Authorities also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and share credible intelligence that could assist ongoing operations.
