Warri APC Meeting Turns Violent as Delta Governor's Protocol Officer Allegedly Attacked
Mr. Tempo Mudi (also referred to in some reports as Temple Mudi), the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, was reportedly assaulted and seriously injured during a Delta Central All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders' meeting held at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Effurun, near Warri, on Sunday, July 28, 2026. The incident has generated widespread public attention, with conflicting accounts emerging over what triggered the violence.
According to posts circulating on social media, the attack occurred after Mudi allegedly told attendees that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration "is the best thing to happen to Nigerians." These claims suggest that the statement angered some youths present at the meeting, leading to a physical assault. However, these accounts have not been independently verified by authorities.
Other reports, however, present a different version of events. According to eyewitnesses cited by news outlets, the violence may have stemmed from an earlier disagreement involving Mudi and another attendee, which later escalated into a broader clash involving supporters and rival groups. Several people were reportedly injured as chairs and bottles were used during the confrontation.
Videos shared online showed scenes of panic as participants fled the venue while injured individuals were evacuated. Mudi reportedly sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body before he was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. His current medical condition has not been officially disclosed.
The Delta State chapter of the APC has denied reports that the stakeholders' meeting descended into chaos, insisting the event was peaceful and accusing some media platforms of spreading misleading information. Party officials maintained that the meeting concluded successfully and called on the public to disregard what they described as false narratives.
As of the latest available information, neither the Delta State Police Command nor the Delta State Government has released a comprehensive official statement confirming the exact cause of the violence or whether any arrests have been made. Investigations are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Many Nigerians have since taken to social media to condemn the reported attack and to wish Mr. Tempo Mudi a speedy recovery, while urging political actors and supporters to embrace peaceful dialogue and avoid violence during political engagements.
