The Zamfara State Police Command has discovered and safely destroyed an improvised explosive device, IED, allegedly planted by bandits along the Kunchin Kalgo axis of Tsafe Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the explosive was detected and neutralised by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, unit before it could cause harm.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the device was strategically planted to inflict mass casualties on road users and commuters travelling along the route.

The command attributed the successful operation to timely intelligence provided through community collaboration, which enabled security operatives to respond swiftly and avert a potential attack.

Police commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation, noting that public support has continued to play a crucial role in ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the state.

The statement added that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for planting the explosive device.

To strengthen security, the command said convoy patrols had been deployed along strategic routes to prevent further threats and ensure the safety of residents and travellers.

The Commissioner of Police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies, assuring them that all reports would be treated with confidentiality and prompt action.
