Anambra Couple Arrested for Brutal Abuse of 10 Year Old Boy.
"How Can She Care So Much About Her Own Child and Do This to Another?" Outrage as Parents Accused of Burning Boy with Plastic
A 30 year old woman, Chisom Chukwukere, and her husband Chukwudi have been arrested by Anambra State police after a disturbing video showing a 10 year old boy covered in severe injuries went viral on social media.
The couple, who live in Awada, Obosi, within Idemili North Local Government Area, are accused of subjecting the young boy to horrific abuse including using burning plastic to inflict serious burns all over his body.
The footage, which spread rapidly online, triggered widespread outrage and prompted swift action from law enforcement. Police operatives moved in and took both suspects into custody.
In a strange twist, the woman also had her infant child taken into protective custody on Thursday by the Anambra State Ministry of Women's Affairs and Social Welfare. During questioning, Chisom reportedly begged authorities to return the baby to her, claiming the child was sick and needed her care.
Many have reacted with disbelief and anger pointing out the sharp contradiction between her concern for her own child and the brutal treatment allegedly meted out to the 10 year old victim.
The baby has since been handed over to a family member under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
Confirming the arrests, Anambra State Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said investigations are ongoing and that anyone found responsible will face justice.
“The police remain steadfast in enforcing laws designed to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and all forms of violence,” Ikenga stated.
He added that Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu has assured residents of the command's commitment to working with government agencies and child protection groups to safeguard children's welfare across the state.
