“He Was Their Shield”: Bandits Kill Civil Defence Officer, Abduct His Daughter in Home Invasion.

In a brutal late night attack that has left a quiet community reeling, gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have killed an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and kidnapped his teenage daughter.

The assault occurred in Odo-Ere, the headquarters of Yagba West Local Government Area in Kogi State, turning what should have been a safe family home into a scene of unimaginable horror.

The victim, identified simply as Mr. Ayo by colleagues and neighbors, was off duty when a gang of armed men stormed his residence under the cover of darkness. Despite frantic efforts by family members to save him, Mr. Ayo was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where doctors sadly pronounced him dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited in the mortuary as a "Brought-In-Dead" case.

But the tragedy did not end there. Before fleeing into the night, the assailants grabbed the officer’s eldest daughter, whisking her away to an unknown location. The abduction has sent waves of panic through the community, with locals now living in fear, wondering who will be next.

A local source, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the attack as “targeted and ruthless.” The source added, “They didn’t come to rob. They came to kill and take. This man was a Civil Defence officer, yet his own home was not safe. What hope is there for the rest of us?”

As of the time of this report, security agencies have not issued an official statement regarding the incident. The silence has only deepened the frustration among residents, who are now pleading for immediate military or police intervention. They worry that the kidnapped girl may be moved across state lines if a rescue operation is not launched swiftly.

This latest attack adds to a growing list of security failures in Yagba West and surrounding areas, a region that has increasingly become a hotspot for banditry and kidnappings. Community leaders are calling on the Kogi State Government and the Inspector General of Police to deploy more tactical units to the area before the situation spirals further out of control.
