Horror in Calabar: Police Arrest Couple for Allegedly Killing Woman, Selling Body Parts.

Residents of Afokang area in Calabar South, Cross River State, were thrown into shock and fear on Tuesday after the police arrested a man identified as Ofofon and his girlfriend over the alleged gruesome murder of a young woman whose body parts were reportedly sold to suspected ritual buyers.

The disturbing incident, which has left many residents terrified, reportedly happened along Jebbs Street in the Afokang community, where the suspect and his girlfriend lived together.

According to eyewitness accounts, the woman, who reportedly works at a chemist store, allegedly invited one of her female friends to spend the night at their apartment, unaware that it would become her final night alive.

Residents said the victim arrived at the house peacefully on Monday evening after being persuaded by the suspect’s girlfriend to stay over. However, tragedy allegedly struck in the middle of the night when the couple reportedly attacked, killed and butchered the unsuspecting woman inside the apartment.

A resident of the area, identified as Theresa, narrated how neighbours became suspicious after discovering blood flowing through a drainage pipe connected to the apartment early Tuesday morning.

“The girlfriend invited her friend to sleep over. During the night, they allegedly killed the girl and cut her body into pieces. They probably expected the rain to wash away the blood because the weather looked cloudy earlier, but the rain stopped completely,” she said.

“In the morning, neighbours saw blood flowing from a pipe into the drainage outside the compound. Everybody became frightened because it was obvious something terrible had happened inside the house. That was when people alerted the police.”

The shocking discovery immediately caused panic in the neighbourhood as residents gathered around the building while security operatives stormed the scene.

According to Theresa, investigations by residents revealed that one of the suspect’s minibuses allegedly arrived at the house around 2:00 a.m. and later transported the body parts to an unknown destination before returning him home shortly afterwards.

“He owns about three minibuses. One of the buses came very late in the night to pick him up. People believe he went to deliver the body parts to buyers and later returned before daybreak,” she claimed.

The female suspect reportedly told investigators that her boyfriend locked her inside a room before carrying out the killing. However, residents believe the statement may have been an attempt to distance herself from the crime.

“She said the man locked her up in another room before killing the girl, but many people here do not believe that story because she was the one who brought the victim into the house,” the resident added.

Further allegations from residents painted a disturbing picture of the suspect’s past. Neighbours claimed the man had long been associated with suspicious activities and alleged ritual practices.

According to community sources, the suspect was previously married and had three children before his wife allegedly fled with the children years ago due to fears over his alleged involvement in criminal activities.

Residents also alleged that he owned a provision store along the same street and had previously been linked to strange incidents involving members of his family.

“People in this area have always suspected him. There were rumours sometime ago that he attempted to use his own mother for ritual purposes, but it failed. Since then, the woman reportedly moved out of his house and relocated to State Avenue. She hardly visits him anymore,” another resident disclosed.

Police authorities have since confirmed the arrest of the couple.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed that the suspects were taken into custody over allegations bordering on murder.

He stated that investigations were ongoing and assured residents that the command would thoroughly investigate the incident to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the alleged killing and possible trafficking of human body parts.

The horrifying case has sparked outrage and fear among residents of Calabar South, with many calling for thorough investigations and stricter action against ritual-related crimes and violent killings in the state.

As investigations continue, residents remain deeply shaken by the gruesome allegations, describing the incident as one of the most horrifying crimes ever witnessed in the community.
