“Iran Demands Release of 4 Detained Citizens as Kuwait Accuses Them of Trying to Infiltrate”

A new diplomatic clash is heating up between Iran and Kuwait. Iran’s top diplomat, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, is demanding that Kuwait immediately release four Iranian citizens who were detained earlier this month. Kuwait, however, says the men are members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and were trying to sneak into the country to carry out hostile acts.

According to Kuwaiti state media, the four tried to enter Kuwait on May 1 using a fishing boat. When confronted by Kuwaiti soldiers, there was a clash. Kuwait hasn’t provided further details about the alleged infiltration plot, but the accusation alone is serious if true, this would be the first known attempt by Iran to militarily infiltrate a neighboring Arab country during the current war.

But Iran is telling a very different story. Araghchi posted on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday that Kuwait “unlawfully attacked” an Iranian boat and detained the four citizens in the Persian Gulf. He called the incident an illegal act, saying it happened near an island that the U.S. uses to attack Iran. He didn’t address Kuwait’s claims about an infiltration attempt, but promised: “We demand immediate release of our nationals and reserve right to respond.”

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency also denied Kuwait’s version of events, claiming the four were actually Iranian coast guard personnel doing “routine maritime patrol duties.” According to that report, they only entered Kuwaiti waters because their navigation system broke down.

For now, the truth remains unclear but tensions in the Persian Gulf just got noticeably sharper.
