Jobberman Brings Free Skills Training to Abia Students: “Don’t Let the Global Economy Leave You Behind”.

In a bid to tackle Nigeria’s growing unemployment crisis, Jobberman one of the country’s leading career platforms has launched a new training and upskilling project in Abia State. The event, held at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, drew a large crowd of students and young job seekers eager to learn practical, employable skills.

Anita Udeh, who leads the Jobberman Project in Abia, said the initiative is about giving young Nigerians a fair shot at competing globally. “We’re preparing you for the evolving job market,” she told participants. “These are real, practical skills that can help you succeed whether you stay in Nigeria or go abroad.”

The state’s Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, didn’t hold back about the harsh reality. Represented by Raymond Ukwa, he revealed that over 500 roles at Moniepoint alone are unfilled simply because companies can’t find skilled people. “We have about 900,000 graduates coming out of universities every year, but only roughly 50,000 will find jobs. That’s a massive gap,” he said.

He added that while Governor Alex Otti’s administration is reviving moribund industries in Abia, it’s unclear if young people actually have the skills to work in them. “53.2% of Nigerians are either unemployed or underemployed due to inadequate skills. We need to face this reality head on.”

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, also stressed that women must not be left out. Represented by Mrs. Nnenna Nwaubani, she urged female students and youths to seize the opportunity to upskill.

Inn Ikhide, Head of Youth Engagement and Learning at Jobberman, reminded the audience that the organization was founded in 2009 to fight unemployment. He added that Jobberman has now partnered with Mastercard to help young Nigerians learn how to write professional CVs, work remotely, and tap into global job markets.

The training was officially flagged off by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Sports, who encouraged participants to take it seriously: “Use this to become a better version of yourself.”
