LAGOS COURT ADJOURNS KILLABOI MURDER CASE AS THE VICTIMS MOTHER TESTIFIES.

A Lagos High Court sitting at the JIC Taylor Courthouse in Igbosere has adjourned the trial of Benjamin Nnayereugo, also known as ‘Killaboi,’ until May 21 and 22. The adjournment allows for further cross-examination of Cordelia Onuwaghagbe, mother of 21-year-old Augusta Onuwaghagbe, who was allegedly murdered by the defendant.

The cross-examination, conducted by the defendant’s counsel, Marcel Oru, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, began on Wednesday, April 21, and continued on Thursday, April 22. Before Justice Ibironke Harrison, the 56-year-old witness faced additional questions.

When asked if the defendant’s family had reached out after her daughter’s death, Mrs. Onuwaghagbe testified that someone claiming to be the defendant’s father contacted her shortly after Nnayereugo was arrested in Sierra Leone. She said the person invited her to discuss a settlement, but she refused, insisting that any such discussion would only take place after the defendant was extradited to Nigeria.

She also told the court that she had been in contact with the defendant, who sent $1,530 to her bank account following her daughter’s death. Additionally, she testified that the defendant opened a cryptocurrency account for her daughter before she died, though she maintained that the funds used to open the account belonged to Augusta.

The witness further stated that she was unaware of any money sent by the defendant for her daughter’s burial.

The court proceedings were interrupted by a power outage, preventing the defense counsel from presenting electronic evidence to support his case.

Background of the Case:

Killaboi is accused of killing Augusta at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023, before fleeing Nigeria. He was declared wanted by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in October 2023, leading to an INTERPOL Red Notice.

He was first arrested in Sierra Leone under a false identity but escaped during a prison break in November 2023. Authorities say he continued to evade capture using forged identities, eventually relocating to Doha, Qatar, in January 2025. His identity was confirmed through international cooperation and biometric verification, leading to his arrest in Qatar in February 2025 and extradition to Nigeria in April 2025.

In June 2025, the Lagos State Government filed a two-count charge against him, including murder and indecent interference with the victim’s corpse. He pleaded not guilty when arraigned in November 2025.
