ADC Faces Unity Questions as Obi–Kwankwaso Coalition Push Intensifies
There is a growing movement inside the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to create a joint presidential ticket between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 elections.
This push, led by supporters through the Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, is becoming more organized nationwide and is seen by supporters as a strong strategy to unite southern youth support with northern voter strength. They believe this partnership could give the opposition a better chance of winning power.
However, the situation inside the party is complicated because several powerful politicians are also interested in the presidential ticket, including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. Their ambitions may lead to internal competition and possible divisions within the party.
The ADC is gaining momentum as a possible major opposition party for the 2027 elections, but the proposed Obi–Kwankwaso joint ticket while popular among supporters could create internal conflict because many strong candidates want the presidential ticket.
