Peter Obi: Chaos Erupts as NDC Presidential candidate Visits Benue State

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has stated that he was stopped from entering certain communities in Benue State.

‎Obi stated that youths and security personnel came out to chase him and his team away, saying they were not wanted in the state.

‎He entered Makurdi, the Benue capital, to reach communities affected by violence and attacks, but his convoy was blocked.

‎

‎The NDC candidate added that the people who blocked him also attacked his convoy on Tuesday, September 8, while he was attempting to connect with other communities in the state.

‎Obi stated that his reason for going to Benue was to visit places that had been attacked by criminals in recent times.

‎

‎According to Obi, security personnel should not look away from this threat and should call the criminals to order.

‎

‎Obi said"As a presidential candidate, I want to visit every community and meet with the people, which is why I am here today. We do not want to cause confusion or endanger people's lives, which is why I am being civil.

‎

‎"Additionally, the vice presidential candidate and Obi's running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, stated that the attack on his principal in Benue was a "dark day for our democracy."

‎Kwankwaso, who posted on X on Tuesday afternoon, stated that every citizen of Nigeria has the right to move freely in the country.

‎

‎The NDC vice-president said that "Authorities must remember, the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of movement. This right applies even more strongly to Mr. Obi, who is a former governor and leading opposition figure,"

‎ He also added that the Benue State Government should find those behind the attack, prosecute them, and ensure that the NDC candidate and his convoy can move freely in the state.

‎On the other hand, the Obidient Movement, through a statement, condemned the attack and the blocking of Obi from moving freely within Benue State.
