There’s exciting news coming out of Abia State. Governor Alex Otti has announced that construction will soon kick off on a brand new Umuahia Stadium but this won’t be your average sports ground. He says it’s going to be a full blown "stadium city," complete with hotels, housing estates, and other attractions.

The Governor shared this update while hosting Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze at his office yesterday. The footballer, who is a proud son of Abia State, had come to personally thank the Governor for showing up for him during his mother’s burial over the weekend.

Otti assured his guest that the land for the project has already been acquired, and the team is currently in the feasibility stage. He expects to flag off construction before the year runs out. The Governor also took the moment to call on Abia’s successful sons and daughters to come back and invest, promising to give them priority.

"I would like our people to come and invest here. Pick whatever interests you," Otti said.

Chukwueze, clearly impressed, didn't hold back his praise. He noted that the transformation happening across the state is visible proof of purposeful leadership. According to him, the planned stadium city is a smart investment that will help young talents and put Abia on the map for sports lovers worldwide.

He also assured the Governor that he plans to invest in sports back home, as a way of giving back to the community that shaped his career. While consoling the footballer over his recent loss, Otti described the death of his mother as a monumental loss and encouraged him to stay strong.
