Ilejemeje Vice Chairman Rescued as Ekiti’s Kidnapping Crisis Deepens”
Mrs. Ogunleye Grace, Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government, was kidnapped on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti Road. Her vehicle was found abandoned, her phone switched off — and her fate, unknown.
Her family was left in disarray, the state of the nation worsens every second. Tears seems to cloud happiness; blood seems to be the measure of emotion in Nigeria
In a swift joint operation involving the police, military, and local security personnel, pressure mounted on her abductors until they had no choice but to release her. She emerged unhurt. Commissioner of Police Micheal Falade has since ordered a full investigation to identify those responsible.
The relief was palpable. As one observer noted online, “Thank God — it’s not all who are kidnapped that return alive.”
Yet the celebration is shadowed by a darker reality. Just weeks earlier, on April 28, unknown gunmen stormed a Christ Apostolic Church at Eda Oniyo in the same local government, shot dead the pastor, and abducted approximately 15 worshippers mid-service. Those victims remain in captivity, with security agencies claiming to work around the clock for their rescue.
For many citizens, the fear runs deeper than the act of kidnapping itself — it’s the chilling knowledge that not every story ends with a rescue. As one voice on social media bluntly put it: “Is either she pay ransom with cash, or with her life.”
Investigation is stil ongoing
