Obi, Kwankwaso Defect to NDC Amid ADC Crisis

The 2023 presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ending weeks of speculation about their political alignment following the internal crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Both politicians made their move during a visit to the residence of NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson, in Abuja, where they held consultations with party stakeholders.

The meeting, which lasted for over an hour, included discussions on the party’s direction and ongoing political engagements. It later proceeded into a closed-door session before concluding.

Speaking after the meeting, Kwankwaso urged his supporters and political associates to join the NDC, describing the party as a platform for broader participation and unity.

Obi, on his part, advised party members to avoid legal battles over internal disputes, encouraging dialogue and reconciliation as the preferred means of resolving conflicts.

The defection of Obi and Kwankwaso is widely regarded as a significant political development, given their strong grassroots support across different regions of Nigeria. Their exit from their previous platforms follows persistent instability within the ADC, which has triggered realignments ahead of future elections.
