Putin orders enhanced security around Russian schools, infrastructure

President Vladimir Putin has directed heads of special services and law enforcement agencies to bolster counter-terrorism and security across the educational and social systems and infrastructure.

He gave the order on Wednesday at a meeting with senior government members, where he stressed that children’s health and wellbeing remains one of Russia’s national priorities.

“Carry out the relevant work without delay,” the premier commanded. “We must ensure reliable protection of children’s centres, camps, and health resorts.”

Putin said children and young people represent the future of the nation, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their needs despite external “temporary challenges.”

The President said adversaries continue to “resort to terrorist methods,” citing the incident at the student dormitory of the Lugansk Pedagogical University in Starobelsk.

The drone attack, which occurred on May 22, precipitated Russia’s recent aerial assault on Ukraine, regarded as the largest aerial assault on Kyiv since the war began.

Putin, however, slammed “sponsors of the Kyiv regime, the European ruling elites” for imposing sanctions against organisations where children spend the summer.

The President called such restrictive measures “utter nonsense and sheer absurdity,” saying he does not understand what they are trying to achieve.

“Do they intend to restrict the work of children’s centres?” he quipped. “This is a manifestation of sheer feeble-mindedness, an attempt to perpetrate yet another petty act of spite.
