US sanctions Iran’s associates seeking to buy weapons for IRGC

The United States has imposed sanctions on Iran’s associates that have sought to source and purchase weapons, including man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS).

Those affected—accused of fronting for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—include thirteen individuals and entities based in Iran, Belarus, and China, including Hong Kong.

The designations follow the May 8, 2026 action to disrupt procurement networks that aid Iran’s military programs and degrade its ability to advance military activities in the region.

Washington said the latest move supports the implementation of United Nations sanctions on Iran, reimposed because of Iran’s “significant non-performance” of its nuclear obligations.

The United Nations Security Council resolution 1929 requires UN Member States to prevent the supply, sale, or transfer of conventional weapons such as MANPADS to Iran.

The U.S. reiterated its resolve to maintain maximum pressure on Iran and take actions to deny the IRGC and the government access to the resources that sustain their subversive acts.
