The countdown has begun for Ebonyi State's local government elections, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirming that polling will take place across all 13 Local Government Areas and 171 wards on August 22. The elections will determine who takes up the positions of council chairmen and councilors throughout the state.

In a show of early preparedness, the All Progressives Congress (APC) launched its campaign machinery on Monday in Ikwo, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense political contest. Party leaders and supporters gathered with a singular message: grassroots mobilization is key to success.

The rallying cry from APC leadership centered on one critical task encouraging residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). Party strategists believe that high voter turnout across all 171 wards and 13 LGAs will be the deciding factor in securing victory.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, who was represented by Deputy Governor Mrs. Patricia Obila at the flag-off ceremony, officially presented the party's banner to chairmanship candidate Mr. Chidi Nwode. The governor didn't mince words about the caliber of candidates the party was fielding, describing them as "tested, trusted, and marketable."

"The responsibility now falls on you, the party faithful, to take these candidates to the communities and make them acceptable to the people," Nwifuru urged the gathering. "They are the best choices, so don't let negative propaganda sway you."

The governor also stressed the importance of maintaining peace throughout the campaign period, calling on supporters to focus on issue.based discussions rather than actions that could disrupt the electoral process.

Meanwhile, other political parties are also gearing up for the contest, with campaign activities picking up momentum across the state as the election date draws nearer.
