Governor’s Brother Declares for Rivers Governorship: “I’ll Serve Only One Term”
Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, the older brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has thrown his hat into the ring for the governorship race under a different political platform, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). And he’s making a bold promise: if elected, he will serve just one term.
Speaking ahead of his party’s primary election, Blessing described himself as “ready, competent, and energetic,” vowing to bring back peace, stability, and economic life to Rivers State, which he says has seen better days.
In his address, he didn’t hold back. “We have lost opportunities. We have lost investments. We have lost our dignity and our pride as Rivers people,” he said. He called for a political “uprising” across party and ethnic lines to reclaim the state’s former glory as the nation’s treasure base.
Blessing insisted that power belongs to the people, not deep pockets. “We may not match their financial capacity, but we have the people. That makes us richer,” he said.
He also stood firmly by the state’s zoning arrangement, arguing that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District must be allowed to complete its eight year turn. To respect that, he pledged to serve only four years before supporting the next candidate from the next district. “It sets a dangerous precedent if we alter the rotation formula,” he warned.
He appealed directly to his “elder brother” in the race to step aside and join the people’s movement to take back the state. “Rather than continue, step down and support the uprising of the people,” he urged.
Blessing called on his two million supporters across all 23 local government areas to turn out en masse for the NDC primary, saying, “Let’s make a statement to reclaim the soul of our dear Rivers State.”
