“He Has Our Wheels”: Ekiti Transport Unions Pledge Massive Support for Governor Oyebanji’s Re-Election.

If you’re driving through Ekiti State these days, you’ll notice a buzz among the transport workers. And they’ve just made their position very clear.

On Monday, three major transport unions the NURTW, RTEAN, and NACT came together to declare their full backing for Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the June 20 governorship election. Their reason? They say the governor’s work on the ground speaks louder than any campaign billboard.

At a gathering with the governor in Ado-Ekiti, the NURTW chairman, Omotayo Falope, didn’t hold back. He described Oyebanji as “God-sent” and said his first term has been unmatched. In their view, the governor’s performance has already done the heavy lifting for his re-election bid.

The RTEAN state chairman, Sunday Adeola, added a practical point: Oyebanji’s road projects have actually reduced the stress and cost for drivers and vehicle owners. That’s not just politics it’s their daily reality.

Meanwhile, NACT chairman Kehinde Afolabi thanked the governor for bringing peace among the often fractious transport unions in the state. For years, union rivalries caused chaos, but under this administration, calm has returned.

Governor Oyebanji, clearly pleased, thanked the unions for their support and urged them to turn their words into action by mobilising voters. He also made sure to pass credit upward, saying his achievements wouldn’t have been possible without President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s backing. He asked the drivers to thank the president by voting massively for their party.

The governor’s campaign director general, Cyryl Fasuyi, drove the point home: keeping the peace and development going means keeping the same leadership.

The state House of Assembly is also making waves. As part of the ongoing constitutional amendment at the National Assembly, Ekiti lawmakers have thrown their weight behind state police, true federalism, resource control, and legislative autonomy. They’re also pushing for recognition of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and more citizen participation in voter registration.

The Assembly’s media chairman, Babatunde Oke, revealed that since June 2023, the House has passed 33 bills into law all signed by the governor.
