Nsofor Denies Withdrawing from NDC Anambra South Senate Race

Honourable Chinedu Nsofor, an aspirant seeking the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket for the Anambra South Senatorial District, has dismissed reports claiming that he has withdrawn from the race.

Nsofor described the reports as false and politically motivated, insisting that he remains fully committed to pursuing the party's ticket ahead of the senatorial contest.

In a statement issued to journalists, Nsofor said rumours of his withdrawal were fabricated by political opponents who see him as a strong contender in the race.

He maintained that he has no intention of stepping down and would not betray the trust and confidence placed in him by his supporters across the district.

"I want to make it categorically clear that at no time have I considered stepping down for any aspirant," he stated.

According to him, his campaign continues to enjoy widespread support across the seven local government areas that make up Anambra South Senatorial District.

Nsofor also claimed that his aspiration has attracted the backing of former Nigerian leaders, including former military president General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He said the support from influential political figures has strengthened his determination to remain in the contest.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the party's May 29 primary election, Nsofor urged his supporters to disregard unofficial results circulating on social media.

He argued that the party leadership had yet to make a final decision regarding its candidate and warned against premature victory claims by any aspirant.

"The Nigeria Democratic Congress remains supreme and has the final decision on who becomes its candidate. Nobody should parade himself as the winner until the party makes an official announcement," he said.

The aspirant further appealed to his supporters to remain calm and united while awaiting the outcome of the party's internal processes.

Context (Why It Matters)

The dispute highlights growing tensions within the NDC ahead of the Anambra South senatorial election. Reports of withdrawals, disputed primary outcomes, and competing claims of victory have intensified political uncertainty within the party.

For supporters and stakeholders, the eventual decision of the party leadership could significantly shape the political landscape of the senatorial district and determine the NDC's chances in the election.

The controversy also underscores the importance of party unity as political parties prepare for future electoral contests.

Despite rumours suggesting otherwise, Chinedu Nsofor has reaffirmed his commitment to the race for the NDC senatorial ticket in Anambra South.

As debates over the party's primary process continue, he insists that the final decision rests with the NDC leadership and has called on supporters to remain patient pending an official announcement.

For now, the battle for the party's ticket remains unresolved, with all eyes on the NDC's next move.
