There are a lot of vacation sites in Africa; it took a hard deliberation for me to decide which one to write on, this means that Africa is beautiful.

Egypt
Yeah, I finally decided, why not take a mental tour through this nation that still keeps archaeologists and historians puzzled and in awe.

Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, and the Red sea to the east, Egypt is located in the North-eastern corner of Africa.
The national flag of Egypt is known for its tricolour bands of red at the top, signifying the martyrs who fought for the nations freedom against the British colonial rule, the white band in the middle represents national spirit, purity and peace, it also stands as a reminder of the 1952 revolution which overthrew monarchy without any killing, while the black at the bottom, serves as a reminder of the dark eras of foreign rule and oppression. Lastly, the golden Eagle positioned directly in the middle of the white band, known as the Eagle of Saladin, represents sovereignty and strength; it is the national emblem of Egypt.
The official language of the Egyptians is Arabic, used for government, education and formal document, though, English is widely understood in Egypt, within the tourism sector, transportation, and the main cities.
Islam is the primary religion of Egypt.
The pyramids of Egypt are the last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the World.
This info is for cat owners; Cats were and are still considered sacred animals by the Egyptians, this means, there is a high chance of your cat getting a special treatment more than you in Egypt, because they are seen pets of good luck and fortune.
Plus, ancient Egypt invented toothpastes and believed that makeup had healing powers.
Time to give a tip to your belly for top three amazing dishes you should try out when you visit Egypt.
First on my list is, the popular Koshary, considered a national dish, it’s a mix of lentils, chickpeas, spaghetti and macaroni noodles, with rice spices, hot sauce and tomato sauce.
Next up, Mashii, meaning stuffed, this dish is made from eggplant, bell peppers, hollowed out zucchini or empty cabbage leaf, with spiced rice, all baked up.
Last is, Taamiya, the Egyptian falafel, made from mashed fava beans mixed with onions, cilantro and other spices, fried in vegetable oil.
Okay, we learnt earlier that Egypt is officially an Islamic nation; this therefore means that modesty is highly revered.
Well don’t worry, I’ve got you covered on outfits.
For the ladies, your holiday bag should contain, flowy maxi dresses, wide-leg linen pants, scarves and shawls, loose fitting tops, and generally dresses below the knees are highly appropriate.
For males, button down shirts, linen trousers, polo shirts and chinos. Footwear’s should be closed-toe breathable shoes due to dusty roads and uneven terrains.
The official currency is the Egyptian Pound( EGP), it’s the only legal tender for everyday transactions, although, foreign currencies like US dollars and Euro are allowed, but widely accepted for tourist purposes, travel services and high-end lodging.
Speaking of tourism, the Pyramids of Giza were once bright white, which adds up to my suggestions of breath-taking sites to visit;
- The complex temple of Luxor(Worlds greatest open air museum).
- Aswan and Abu Simbe( Giant rock temples built by Rameses ii, near the Sudan border).
- Gorgeous beaches of the Red sea.
- The Grand Egyptian Museum which contains ancient interesting artefacts.

Though English is widely understood, it is wise to use basic Egyptian phrases like Sabah el khar – good morning, Ce – Yes, Mmon – No, Salam – hello.
- Do well to pack up sunscreens, shades, hats and a portable plastic bottle to stay hydrated.
- Tip moderately, at least 10-15%.
- Always ask for permission. before taking pictures of people
- Respect prayer times and avoid loud behaviour near mosque.
- Hospitality is a core value for Egyptians, gently accept or decline it.
- Always use your right hand to eat and give items
Do not wear outfits that expose body parts like cleavages, laps etc.
- Avoid public display of affection
- Don’t place your feet on furniture.
- Don’t eat before the host.
- Don’t wear shoes into Egyptian homes, take them off at the door.
- Avoid sensitive topics; politics, religion.
Egyptians like other Islamic countries, are conservative with their way of life, ensure to stick to these basic rules, and be sure to have a smooth experience.
