The Weight Loss Pill Is Here: Wegovy Goes on Sale at UK Pharmacies No Needle Required.

If you’ve been curious about weight-loss medications but hate the idea of jabbing yourself with a needle every week, there’s some news that might catch your attention. As of Monday, the once a day Wegovy pill is officially available on UK high streets and through online pharmacies. Thousands of people have already started receiving their first deliveries.

This new pill comes from the same Danish company, Novo Nordisk, that makes the popular Wegovy injection. And the key ingredient? It’s the same GLP-1 compound semaglutide that’s been getting so much buzz. Studies suggest the pill works just as well as the jab, which is a big deal for anyone who’s been put off by injections.

But here’s the catch: while the pill got the green light from the UK’s medicines regulator back in June, it’s not yet available on the NHS. For now, you can only get it privately. If you’re overweight or obese, you’ll need to go through a proper medical consultation first. And even then, it’s meant to be used alongside a healthy diet and exercise not as a standalone magic fix.

Now, a word of caution: experts are already warning people to be careful where they buy from. There are plenty of shady websites out there pretending to be legitimate pharmacies, selling what they claim is medication without a prescription and at suspiciously low prices. Some of these could be selling fake or dangerous products, or worse, just trying to steal your personal info. So if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.

So, how much will this set you back? Prices vary, but some online pharmacies are offering the pill from about £2.30 a day as part of a longer treatment plan. A month’s supply of the lowest starting dose (1.5mg) might cost around £69 if you buy a three-month bundle, while the highest dose (25mg) goes up to £189. For comparison, the Wegovy jab currently runs between £79 and £250 a month, and Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro injection is priced from £54 to £300.

There’s one more thing that’s important to know: this isn’t a pill you can just pop with your morning coffee. You have to take it on an empty stomach after at least eight hours of fasting with just a small sip of water. Then you need to wait a minimum of 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking any other medication. It’s a specific routine, and doctors stress that following it correctly makes a huge difference in how well the drug is absorbed.

Despite the extra steps, pharmacists say the pill is a game changer for people who are nervous about needles, travel often, or simply prefer a daily routine over a weekly injection.

Clinical trials back up the excitement: people taking the 25mg daily dose lost between 14% and 17% of their body weight over 64 weeks. Of course, like any medication, it comes with potential side effects. The most common are stomach related issues nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, and vomiting. Anyone experiencing these is urged to talk to their doctor and report it through the official Yellow Card scheme.

It’s still early days, but with tens of thousands of people already signed up for consultations at some online pharmacies, it’s clear there’s a lot of interest. For many, this new pill might just be the option they’ve been waiting for.
