“We’re Under Attack”: Osun Governor Adeleke Raises Alarm Ahead of Polls, Accuses Opposition of Importing Violence.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised a red flag over what he describes as coordinated attacks by gunmen in several towns across the state. Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, the governor appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to call the opposition to order specifically naming former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and APC governorship candidate Bolarinwa Oyebamiji.

Adeleke warned that violence is escalating in Ile-Ife, Osogbo, and Ede, with opposition thugs allegedly shooting sporadically and creating panic among residents. He urged the National Security Adviser, Inspector General of Police, and DSS Director General to turn their full attention to Osun ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election, fearing that bloodshed could be imminent.

The governor’s alarm came shortly after the Osun State Police Command advised all political parties to suspend campaigns, rallies, and processions in Oriade Local Government Area, citing credible intelligence reports and security concerns.

Meanwhile, the APC campaign council accused the ruling party of stoking politically motivated violence against its supporters. But Adeleke’s campaign spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, dismissed the opposition’s claims as “mischievous falsehoods” and dark propaganda, especially regarding the governor’s use of security votes and Amotekun operations.

With tensions rising and security agencies struggling to broker peace between the parties, residents across Osun are watching warily as the clock ticks toward election day.
