Liverpool Tear Tottenham Apart at Anfield as Szoboszlai Stunner Seals Cup Victory

Liverpool booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in an entertaining third-round encounter at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai were on target for the hosts, while Conor Gallagher scored Tottenham's only goal as Liverpool survived a late spell of pressure before eventually sealing a convincing victory.

The goal changed the mood around Anfield as Tottenham pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Liverpool were forced to remain alert as the visitors increased the pressure during the closing stages.

But just when Tottenham appeared capable of making the final minutes uncomfortable for the hosts, Szoboszlai delivered the decisive moment.

The Hungary international, introduced from the bench, struck in stoppage time to restore Liverpool's two-goal advantage and effectively end Tottenham's hopes of a comeback. His spectacular late finish provided a fitting climax to an entertaining cup tie.

The victory sends Liverpool through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, while Tottenham's campaign in the competition comes to an early end.

Liverpool's performance was also notable for the opportunities given to younger players. The Reds made several changes to their starting line-up, with youngsters including Trey Nyoni, Lewis Koumas and James McConnell featuring in the match.
